The transition follows the departure of executive director Ashley Armstrong, who moved on to help lead Goatlandia, according to a September 29 post by Kristen Hassen, who worked with the rescue alongside Jackson Galaxy on a consulting visit nearly three years ago. In the post, Hassen said the Jackson Galaxy Project is assuming leadership of the small, cage-free shelter in the heart of Napa County, with plans for 2027 to realize Galaxy’s vision of a safe place for what the project calls the undercats and a learning center for animal welfare professionals and cat advocates.

Hassen said the move comes as her Outcomes for Pets team wraps up more than two years of work with Riverside County Animal Services, and thanked the We Care board, staff, volunteers, and supporters behind the transition.
