Ethics Policy

Our standards follow the tradition of the Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics, organized around four principles: seek truth and report it, minimize harm, act independently, and be accountable and transparent.

Seek truth and report it: we verify before we publish, using original sources wherever possible. We do not invent facts, quotes, or events.

Minimize harm: we weigh the public's need to know against potential harm, and we treat subjects of coverage with respect.

Act independently: we answer to no interest but our readers. Our reporters do not take positions on the matters they cover, and advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions.

Be accountable and transparent: we correct errors promptly and visibly, we label opinion as opinion, and we explain our decisions when asked.
